Having been let down by their original supplier, the British Society for Haematology approached 88 Events only 3 weeks before their prestigious Speakers Dinner.
The event kick-starts an annual week-long conference and is where key-note speakers from around the world would gather for fine-dining at Stanmer House in Brighton.
88 Events brief was to tastefully style the venue and to provide delectable food for the annual dinner.
With only 3 weeks to the event, we had to move quickly to organize two major factors of the event, fine dining and sophisticated styling.
Within 2 days of the initial enquiry Sheila and Gill had hopped on a plane to Brighton to see the venue and it’s facilities. Following this it was all systems go to organize a quality caterer to design and prepare a delicious meal and to style the venue to perfection.
The grandeur of Stanmer House, once home to the Pelham family, one of England’s most influential families, meant that the styling of the dinner simply had to be distinctive and elegant to reflect the stature of the house. It’s neutral canvas provided an excellent backdrop for bold rich colours that would look exquisite.
Rich plum faux silk table linen, highlighted with vibrant orange was used to dress the tables, which were set with morango cutlery and damson glass charger plates tastefully complemented with a plum napkin, solid ribbon band and bespoke menus.
Luxurious swirl glassware accompanied by pewter goblets added a touch of glamour to the occasion. To carry the colours throughout the house 88 Events scattered bespoke orange faux silk cushions on the around the house.
Although BSH didn’t have any specific requests for the design of their menu, one thing was imperative when it came to the food – it must be delectable fine dining to the highest level.
88 Events’ preferred caterer went into action to design a menu for our client, a tall task at such sort notice. Unfortunately there was no time for a tasting, but because 88 Events work so closely with our caterer on high profile events throughout the year, we knew, and promised the client, that the food would be impeccable.
On arrival guests were greeted with Pommery Cuvee Louise 1998, Elderflower cordial with sparkling water and a selection of mouthwatering fruit cocktails. Waiting staff enticed them with canapés that included tamarind & quince marinated sea bass, poached quail eggs and fried confit of duck to wet their taste buds.
Following a welcome speech, dinner began with seared hand dived scallop, roasted langoustine & yellow fin tuna, followed by roast loin of black faced lamb with rosemary gravy, raspberry posset with piquant crushed blackcurrants finishing with selection of British & continental cheese with dried fruits, petit fours and liqueurs.
The vegetarian option was equally as delicious, starting with shitake mushroom & cep parfait with sugar snap salad and followed by a spinach, nutmeg & ricotta wrap.
Fleurie, a classic trio comprising of a harpsichord player, cello player and a fiddler, entertained guests during the drinks reception and provided quintessential background music during dinner.
With 15 years experience in the events industry, 88 Events run a very tight ship when it comes to the operational side of managing an event.
As the event was only a short time away, the logistics had to be quickly planned and actioned so that the event would run efficiently. All of the items for styling the event and all of the food had to be carefully transported from Scotland to Brighton in time to style the venue and prepare the food.
This important event also required an excellent staff to guest ratio, so the top people from 88 Events and our caterer where chosen to look after the event (15 members of staff to 43 guests).
The week before the event we carried out rigorous quality checks to make sure all linen and other goods were in perfect condition before being careful packed ready for delivery.
Although 88 Events hadn’t previously worked within Stanmer House, from the site visit and constant communication over several weeks we built a good relationship with the team there, which allowed the event to run smoothly for everyone involved.
Our client wanted a prestigious dinner with exquisite fining dining that would create an evening that their keynote speakers would thoroughly enjoy. With only 3 weeks to prepare, 88 Events met and exceed the clients’ expectation, leading to the confirmation of 88 Events involvement in their 2010 and 2011 events.
‘A massive thank you to the team at 88 Events. You created the WOW! factor at our Annual Speakers Dinner - I was actually speechless when I saw how the venue had been transformed. Looking forward to working with you again soon’
