Is Ben Stiller really going to sue 88 Events?
That was the question on the minds of 88 Events’ directors and legal team as they pored over the contents of a crayon written fax sent from the star’s alter-ego, Derek Zoolander.
It seems that Derek is ridiculously unhappy that 88 Events have added a new colour to their exclusive Faux Silk range and have had the gall to name it… ‘Blue Steel’. Just like the model’s classic pose!

If you’re unfamiliar with Ben Stiller’s cult classic film, Zoolander then you’re probably wondering what in the world we’re rabitting on about. If this is the case, we suggest you rent it immediately and indulge yourself in 90 minutes of hilarious stupidity.
It’s as great a send-up of the fashion world as has ever been committed to film. However, word of warning. The film is no ‘Godfather’ or ‘The Kings Speech’ and will never feature in any of those best films ever lists but it is extremely funny.
It also stars Will Ferrel and Owen Wilson plus cameos from just about anyone who was famous 10 years ago! It is one of those movies you really should have in your DVD collection – ideal for rainy days or when you’re feeling down and need cheering up.
If you’ve seen the film, then you’ll know just how important ‘Blue Steel’ was to the rapid rise of Derek Zoolander as the world’s top model.
But Seriously…What is The Point of All This?
Ok, there is a point to this.
As mentioned, we have launched a new colour called Blue Steel. It is rather nice and debuted at one of two corporate events we designed in Brighton last week. Here’s a picture;

It heralds the start of an exciting new era for 88 Events’ Hire Collection.
2011 is going to be a BIG year for 88 Events. We’re launching some new and exciting fabric ranges, table centres and tabletop products. We believe it will make our already unique hire collection even better.
But we’re also changing the way we’re doing things. If you’re considering using 88 Events’ hire collection to style your wedding or party then you should take note of the following:
- From May 3rd, we will be doubling the size of our minimum order. It will increase to £300 from the current £175
- From May 3rd, our hire prices are rising substantially
- From May 3rd, we’re discontinuing our low-cost Siena range of chair covers
So, if you’re wanting to use 88 Events for your wedding and have a limited budget then you should be looking to place an order within the next couple of weeks. On May 3rd, our prices are rising and the minimum order increases to £350.
We thought it best to warn you in case you were delaying placing an order for Siena or something else.
There is a Sweetener Though!
We mentioned that we’re discontinuing Siena. From today and until 4pm on Monday 2nd May, you can get Siena chair covers for the ridiculously cheap price of £2.25 (including sash!). This is the first and only time you’ll be able to hire chair covers from 88 Events at such a low price. Seriously, we’re practically giving these chair covers away.
