The Spring & Summer 2010 Event Design Guide

| March 16, 2010 | Comments (0)

With the news that the economy exited recession in the last quarter of 2009, I’m sure many of you have been wondering what 2010 will hold from an event perspective. 2009 was a tough year, with many cutbacks, particularly in the corporate event industry, so how will 2010 fair?

My conversations with key industry players over the last few weeks indicate that for many, 2010 is still going to be a tough year. Realistic? Yes. Disappointing? Not necessarily.

Smaller Budgets = More Creativity

Although there are signs that the economy might be dragging itself out of the recession, it seems that the days of corporates having a laissez faire attitude to their event budgets are well in the past. Indeed, over the last 18 months we’ve seen more and more companies having to justify the amounts they spend on events. So it looks like lean budgets are here to stay and will not disappear simply because there’s been a small improvement in the economy.

But it doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom. Having a limited budget to work with forces you to be more creative in the concepts you suggest and ultimately deliver. From an event design and management perspective, that means taking the time to create something truly special as opposed to simply rattling off the same old (and tired) event concepts.

If you can achieve this, your clients will feel that they have got real value and ultimately, you’ll be rewarded when the bigger budgets do eventually return in the hopefully not too distant future.

So, to that end, I have pleasure attaching our guide to what’s going to be hot in event design over the next 2 seasons.

P.S. I’d love to hear your thoughts on what the future holds for events whether you’re a corporate event manager trying to do more with less money or an event company looking to be more creative with limited client funds to play with.
